The third phase of testing for the Government’s settled status scheme opened on the 30th March 2019 and millions of EU nationals are expected to apply.
The Government said that earlier test phases of the scheme had gone smoothly, however experts have warned the system could “fall over” because the scheme is now more widely accessible.
Employers are being encouraged to discuss settled status applications with their employees, ensuring they apply to the scheme early by providing them with the correct documentation to support the applications.
Penalties may be incurred if any EU employers fail to meet the deadline as it will be difficult to meet the tests under the ‘right to work in the UK’ rules.
